Must-see Stops

The fastest route is to take Highway 2 south towards Pitcher Creek. However, this particular route might not be the ideal choice for those seeking scenic vistas, as it predominantly features views of open fields. Another option is to take the route through Black Diamond below Okotoks and the town of Longview. This route allows for a closer view of the Rocky Mountains and also offers views of fall foliage. Longview has a small café which is a good place to take a break.

Continuing down Route 22 will lead to Highway 3, and before heading towards Waterton, it is also recommended to stop and take a walk in Red Rock Canyon. This place has many red rocks and it offers a 20-30 minute a walk trail.

If your journey requires some grocery shopping, don’t worry. Make a pit stop at the charming little town of Pincher Creek. So, whether it’s snacks for the road or ingredients for a hearty meal, visit Pincher Creek.

Bear’s Hump

This is a famous hiking in Waterton. You can reach the top in an hour, but you shouldn’t underestimate it. If you attempt to ascend too rapidly from the onset, you may find yourself tiring quickly due to the presence of steep slopes. If you go to the top, the memory of the hardship will disappear. The view from the top is deferent than Banff but still it is amazing.

Our Thoughts

Waterton is a fantastic choice for an early-bird day trip. For the camping aficionados among you, you can snag a reservation to spend a memorable night beneath the starlit sky. Remember, even in the sunny days of summer, the nights can get chilly. So, don’t forget to pack your cozy camping gear. Stay warm and enjoy the stars! Plus, the wind can occasionally be a bit gusty, so it’s crucial to pitch your tent securely. Embrace these elements – they’re all part of the exciting adventure!
